Things To Do While Visiting Cardiff

If you are on visiting on holiday, or visiting for the purpose of studying English in Cardiff, you will naturally want to take some time to explore the local area and make the most of your time in the United Kingdom. So what is there to do in the capital city of Wales?

You will find a wealth of activities within the city itself. Explore some history at Cardiff Castle, see some sport at the Millenium Stadium, or get some shopping done in the fantastic shopping centres which are all very close to the centre of Cardiff. Happily, even if you want to go a bit further, you will find that with the cheap public transport readily available there are a vast range of interests and activities to enjoy.

Perhaps you are into sport, either taking part yourself, or just watching while the professionals get on with it. When it comes to sport, there isn't much you can't do in Cardiff. Whether you want to go abseiling, or canoeing (in the Olympic standard canoe slalom), there are plenty of facilities for you to enjoy sports in Cardiff. If you prefer life as a spectator, you can watch some rugby or football (the Olympic football matches were recently held in Cardiff, so you know the stadium must be impressive!) in the Millenium Stadium. Watching or playing, you will be spoiled for choice.

If you prefer a taste of history, there are plenty of historic houses in the Cardiff area. You can choose from Cardiff Castle, Castell Coch and Caerphilly Castel, as well as the Roman town of Caerleon nearby with the National Roman Legion Museum. For those who like to see more artistic endeavours, there are theatres, galleries and museums to choose from, as well as variety of live music venues. Opera or ballet at the theatre, or a gig at your local pub, it's all here.

One of the latest additions to Cardiff's list of things to do is the Doctor Who Experience. An interactive, multi-sensory experience this gives you the chance to help the Doctor fight off his enemies, armed with a Sonic Screwdriver. You even get to fly the Tardis to help him save the universe once more! There is also an exhibition section where you can see models of a variety of aliens (including all the different daleks from the series!) as well as the many incarnations of the Doctor and his companions.

With two universities and a variety of schools and colleges, there are many students in the city, so if that is you and you are looking for more activities aimed at students, why not check out your school's list of activities. Whether you are studying in your home town or have travelled here to study English abroad, there will be an activity (or a pub!) perfect for you.

The Celtic Language School in Cardiff offers foreign students the opportunity to study English abroad. Located in Central Cardiff, our students have the choice of many different extra-curricular activities nearby.
